These thoughts came to me on a beach. Paddling along, I thought,
“If this was in a film, this could be a Sunday beach...”
Those older films were often
filmed indoors. All of the scenes were made in a studio. Even those
on the deck of a ship. You'd know that nothing you were seeing was
real, which made it all the more like a dream.
On Sunday morning you would finish reading your book. The End. Then you would put it
down. The story was over. You'd look at your hand. You'd look at the
ground in the sunlight. You'd look around at the leaves in the garden.
It was as if all your friends had just gone away.
